It's Halloween Inside!

This year I've become lazy with my indoor Halloween decorating and why not, when I have this great corner shelf.   For those of you who have been following me for a while, you've seen my corner shelves before.  My husband made me two, actually, my new tulip bowl was photographed on my kitchen one just the other day.  Usually I place the Halloween decorations on various shelves, now I can decorate in one swoop -

I've had this light up family of ghosts for a few years, I still like it!

Mr. Creepy is a Jim Shore piece, my husband bought him for me a few years ago, he's so hard to place, his colors are just not the standard Halloween colors, he's awfully cute though.  I guess I shouldn't say I have only one vintage Halloween because I do have the blow mold!!

I even stuck something on the window.

Christmas and Halloween

On Friday I was on my way to the grocery store and saw a couple of yard sale signs, I pulled in and came away with some neat things.  Yesterday I knew I shouldn't have gone out to the yard sales, because I just had a feeling they would be bad and I should be satisfied with what I found on Friday, I was right, most sales I drove by and didn't even get out.  I did park right at the front of one, left the keys in the ignition, it took me a whole minute maybe to look at the goods, went back to the car and the doors were locked.  How stupid was I?  The window was down some, I was able to get my arm  in but not far enough to get the lock,  a young guy running the yard sale got it open on the first try with a hanger.  I went home after that!!

Anyway, on to Friday - I found Shiny Brites at both sales that I went to, $2 for each box, there are made in USA ones and also a few from Poland, I've found some of those before, they are larger and so pretty.  I'm hoping this year I'll have enough to make a Shiny Brite wreath - my collection is growing!

There was a little bit of everything - indents, satins, plastics and one poor little bird.  He had a tail when he came home but that seems to have gone missing, he's not in very good shape.

This is my first Shiny Brite tree topper that I've ever found and in the box - it was included in the price of the decorations, $2.  The original price is stamped on the side, 39 cents!

This is a cute pumpkin blow mold that would go anywhere...

I never look at plastics at yard sales but this Tupperware cereal container was sticking out of a box, it looks like it was never used.  Mom used to have one of these, maybe it's still there, I wouldn't mind having another one, I put oatmeal in it, what a great container!!  I used to have Tupperware years ago but this might be the only piece I have now!

I found some nice things on Friday, I really should have been satisfied and not gone out yesterday at all!

I try to respond to every comment, I appreciate every one, but for the bloggers out there that are no reply bloggers, I'd like to respond but because of your setting, I can't - I'm not ignoring you!!!  It's an easy fix if you choose to go that way.

The Goods

I noticed that I don't do as many thrift finds posts as I used to, I just don't see things that I really want and at the height of the Pyrex craze, I was buying just about every piece of Pyrex that I saw, but now I have more than enough and am even trying to unload a few pieces, I just don't have the space for it and how much can I really use?  I'm sure that will put off a few of you that are still hard core collectors, but, this could very well happen to you, but, with that said, I still will pick up something that I really like and that is a special piece.   I was away this week and Saturday was the first real yard sale day for me, I went around town to just about every one, most had junk but I was lucky at a couple, real lucky, I think!!  I'll start with the yard sales and see what you think...

I have been pinning these cake carriers on Pinterest and wanting one so bad.  I can't believe my luck - to find this at a yard sale - just what I wanted.  I paid $5, I would have paid more, I wanted one so much!   Love it!!

I don't really know what these tin cans are, they have nursery rhymes all over them, they're so cute  - also at the yard sale.

This little plastic manger scene was in the original box, 29 cents was the original price.

You know I like buttons and old buttons on cards, what luck!!  Look at the sweet little baby ones.. I found all those items at the same sale, it was a good day!!    I know I found some neat stuff but that might be it for the whole summer, I'm never very hopeful!

These weren't marked, I asked the lady how much, she took a quick look - $1 - sold to me!!  I have quite a stash of shiny brites now but you can't pass them up when you see them for that price.  There are a few in the box that aren't so old but the majority are and I think what took my eye were the tiny ones, I haven't seen any like that.

I know anybody that loves blow molds is going to love this one!!  $2.  I almost didn't get out of the car, I don't like going to sales where there are people sitting around staring at you in lawn chairs, but, it's a good thing I did -because now I own Santa and his reindeer!   They had two more too - I left them there as I already have a Santa and snowman.  This is going to look so cute on the roof of the shed!

This little guy and the rest of the items I bought when I was at Carla's last week,  he's made in Japan, the Giftcraft sticker is still on him.  I didn't notice there's a little chip on the back, but nobody is going to see that where I'm going to place him - and after all, he was only $1.

I didn't notice the flaw on this little guy either - somebody has already used glue on him, but once again, nobody will notice, another made in Japan cutie, with the Giftcraft sticker still attached.

I'm always interested in the old catalogues, just wish I could find a Christmas one.

Some of these came from yard sales, some from a thrift store - I really hit the jackpot - there's some great old ones there.  I found some Eloise Wilkin books which I already have, but I can't leave them behind, they're good for sharing.

I am on a dry spell for Vera scarves so I was really happy to find one - an old one and a ladybug - even better!

This is one of those Pyrex items that I meant I would buy if it was special - of course, turquoise is, and it's a 404 - it cost me $3.  Another lady had it in her hands, she put it down, I swooped in!!  

I had a great week with some special finds - I also found some scarves for resale, an old Monopoly game for SMASHing - wouldn't it be nice if all outings were so great!!

First Bit of Decorating

We are hooked on the "door shelf" - you could look a long time for a cute little corner shelf like this - it's the greatest idea!   Gary bought the door used, made the shelves, painted and all I had to do was load up the shelves, but you know, that's not so easy - you stand back and something just doesn't look right, I did this numerous times.... I could still be moving things around!  This is my second shelf, he also made one for Carla which she took home this weekend, I think he should go into shelf production!!  This is also the first Christmas decorating I've done, except for buying a Poinsettia and I guess that doesn't really count...

I've probably blogged about most of these items, I found a lot of them in the past year and brought quite a few from home.   I've never made a vintage shelf like this before - I love it!  You can click on for a closer look at any picture.  I just want to stare at the shelf, it looks so pretty.

I didn't have a Santa knee hugger, he just arrived this week, some things you just have to buy online.

Putz houses from home

I love the music box, it belonged to my grandmother, it should have a candle in the middle but I didn't get around to buying that yet.  I blogged about my little "hair ornaments" last year - if you want to read it - well, here it is

Don't worry, this is not the music box I'm giving away, the other one is packed safely away in the closet.  I love the Santa with sleigh, this also came from home, it was never my Mom's, I think it belonged to my great aunt.

Shiny Brites in Pyrex, I like it!!  I used Mom's old corsage and a Christmas hankie from her collection too.  

I blogged about the doll a while ago, I didn't know what she was, turns out she's a Bradley doll, from the 70's.

So many people seem to have this same blow mold!    

Love Those Blow Molds!

I hoped I would find a blow mold to match the Santa I found last year - well, my wish was granted, I was visiting Carla this week, strolled in to the Salvation Army, there was Mr. Snowman, the very same size as my Santa, I looked to the side and spotted the candles, now, I have never been overly excited about the candles, but you'll see why I had to buy them too.  I walked away from them, but quickly came to my senses and took them to the cash, you just can't do that!!!  I hope I don't see any more blow molds this season, or I'll be tempted - they're just so cute....

I had to buy the candles because Mom and Dad had them, I sold these a few years ago in a yard sale which probably wasn't a smart thing to do, but now, I'm wanting anything to do with old Christmas, I should have kept them!  Darcy is standing on their steps,al those years ago,  all decked out for snow but there was no snow that year!

A Little Halloween at Our House

I don't think I've ever done two blog posts in one day before - but, I'm going away for the night tomorrow so I'm doing it now.  I wanted to share a little bit of Halloween around our house...

I bought the pumpkin blowmold at a little grocery store on Prince Edward Island,  I never see new blowmolds here or hardly ever see old ones either.  

I've had the light up ghosts for a long time, I still like it just as much as when I bought it, the other two are new this year.

Maddie's cookbook is displayed - thanks for that!!!  That's two music globes that play scary music!
