I just noticed that I haven't written a post in a couple of weeks, but to be honest, I felt like I didn't really have much to write about!! But, today I do!! Last Wednesday I tagged along with my husband who had business in London - no, that's not London, England, unfortunately it's the other London, in Ontario. He had meetings so that left me on my own to scout out the thrifts and antique malls - it was great! On Friday, we headed to Buffalo, NY for the weekend - lots of shopping and sightseeing too, we went back to Niagara Falls, NY on Saturday evening to see the American Falls, which we had never visisted - what a view!!!!
Sunday morning we were up early - I had found this flea market online - now I know what all you American gals talk about when you mention a flea market - I had never been to anything like this before. It was called Antique World & Flea Market in Clarence, NY - New York's largest indoor/outdoor market - people are set up at storage units, some booths are right in the unit, some are outside, we want to go back again in the summer when it's operating in full force. There were bargains to be had and things that I had never seen before, I'm happy to say I found some things that I've been wanting for a while!!!
No trip would be complete without finding a few Vera scarves - I found nine!!!
I have never found a teen magazine, they are always ladies magazines, now I have a 1968 TEEN magazine, it was cheaper than all the rest that were there because it said a coupon was missing, it's funny, they typed out the missing words on a piece of paper, it's attached to the page. I can't imagine a cover like this now on a teen magazine!!
If you don't like vintage Christmas, there is no need to go on any further because that's what I brought home...
I bought this in Canada and then saw it later at the NY flea, it wasn't priced but I just bet it was less than what I paid. It's so kitschy cute!!! I had it lit this morning, it's even prettier than I thought, love bubble lights!!
I first learned about Gurley candles from the blogs, I wanted just one so bad, I had to resort to buying a couple on Ebay. Then, this summer, I found two at a yard sale, unheard of for around here!!! Well, I have plenty now.
The candles were wrapped in paper, they're in perfect condition.

I was in the land of Gurley candles and didn't even realize it, I was buying two from a lady at the flea market, she said those are more, they're the ones made in Buffalo, you know, well, yes, they are!!! They were first made in Buffalo in 1938 under the Tavern name, that is what this box is so they're old, in 1949, the name was changed to Gurley Novelty. I saw a lot of them at the market - no Halloween though, Easter, Thanksgiving - I should have bought more!!!
The choir boy is about 7 1/2 inches tall. The reindeer actually says Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on the bottom.

I was so happy to get a real Shiny Brite box, I have never seen one out there in the wild before and bonus, it's full of pretty shiny brites. In case you're wondering, no, I did not pay 50 cents for it!!
We're on our way back home on Sunday afternoon, my husband spots a flea market, he said do you want to stop, before I could get the words out of my mouth, he had taken the exit. It was freezing, we were walking around quickly, it wasn't bad actually, then he says, look at this - oh, my, I walked fast to the table. It was a whole table of vintage Christmas, I could have had the whole table but I didn't want it, here's what I did want and got them all for $20, plus the spun head snowman.
I can't imagine how they sat there the whole day. What a happy family of knee huggers, they sure made me happy!! They look like they were never used, the material is clean, the Japan sticker is still on the back of many of them. The big guys in the back row are about 8 inches tall. I had bought one of the small ones earlier in the week, he is in rough shape compared to the rest, but I love them all. It was definitely my favorite purchase!!
I love to get away on these excursions, it's so much fun to find treasures like this!!!

We went away for the weekend, of course, that involves checking out the local thrift and antique shops. I found some things and cute things they are!!!
This guy was on a 60% off table at an antique barn, I surely would never have purchased it at regular price but with the discount, it was a reasonable price. There are no markings on him, he's quite heavy and oh, so cute!!
It's sure great to be able to take pictures outside again, it was sunny and nice today but looks like rain for most of the week...
It was a planter weekend, I guess, I bought another one, no markings on this one either - I picked this one up at a thrift.
This is not something I very rarely look at, but this little pitcher took my eye, I picked it up and never put it back down - he was very reasonably priced at an antique shop. He's stamped "Japan"
I don't normally buy mugs either, but this one had an owl - and it's from Creemore China & Glass - Creemore, Ontario - Decorated in Canada! Mugs sure have increased in size, haven't they?
I actually bought a piece of Pyrex - I don't need all the different colors of these, I got rid of a couple and figured I would just keep the lime green ones, as that's what I have the most of - I paid $2.50 for this 024 at a Salvation Army - it's made in Canada. So, now I have a new lime green piece!!
A bunny book to add to the Easter collection, for those future grandchildren!
I never find things like this at the Value Village around here - older Carlton cards, they were in the box, twelve cards of each - aren't they great?
It was perfect - I found two Vera scarves and a couple of other ones for resale.
I didn't thrift this giant Ball jar but I wanted to share it, I purchased it at Canadian Tire, after seeing someone with one, I had to have one for myself! It's a one gallon jar, I don't know what I'm going to put in it but I'll be filling it up with something! Love it!!

It's Halloween and there's not going to be one speck of it in this post!! The trick or treaters may be few and far between tonight, it's dark right now and a heavy rainfall warning has been issued, yesterday there was a sprinkle of snow on the ground, now this!
So, here's a few things I've picked up in the past week - looks like Christmas is making its way onto the shelves, I had to pick through quite a bit of junk to find something, just little things but cute none the less.
These little things were just thrown in a drawer - oh, the junk you have to paw through to get anything cute - what do you think of the little mouse family?
Anyone that has a ceramic Christmas tree will know that these are the bulbs for that tree. I'm pretty sure I bought another supply at a yard sale in the summer, so now Carla and I will be all set with many extras. I actually saw one of those ceramic trees yesterday and it looked to be in great shape!
I bought all of this with the intention of using it for SMASHing.
This I bought for the graphics, it's an old Peter Pan record, it's not the right record in it and it's pretty scratched up so that might be going to the garbage. The folder will be great on a shelf.
I think this is one of the cutest Christmas books I've found since I've been collecting up old Christmas tales, every page is just sweet! There is no date on the book, it only says - Printed in Canada by Regal Stationery Co. Ltd. I used to sell Regal door to door when I was about twelve..
Of course, I'm always happy to bring home a couple of Vera scarves.
What is wrong with me? I shouldn't be buying any Pyrex, I have more than enough. But, I had to buy this little 472 casserole, I'd never seen it before, I wasn't even sure what it was called - it's one part of the twin server promotional set - I thought it was just so pretty and it was only $1.99 - I don't care if I ever find the other piece, I just thought the pattern was so nice!
You know how it is when you see turquoise Pyrex, you think you have to buy it, even if it's in the back of your mind that you might have it, well, that's what happened to me - I brought this home and I do have it!!
If there is any reader out there that desperately needs this divided dish, you can have it, all you have to do is pay the postage to get it to your address, keep in mind, I'm in Canada.
I bought a piece of Pyrex yesterday, I don't buy much anymore but how could I leave this behind..
Yes, it's a 404 pink bowl - it has a few scratches on it and Bar Keepers Friend didn't really do too much for it. I bought it because - I like the pink, I have two others and it was $1 - yes, $1 - it wasn't marked, I asked her and she said all bowls are $1 - I had to take it.
So, here's what I have now in pink and turquoise bowls - missing one bowl in each set - I've thrifted all of these - both of the 404's were $1 - they look so pretty together - maybe someday I'll come across the ones I need.
I mentioned a few posts ago that Carla and I had bought a box of vintage Christmas cards, we split them up - here's what I got - aren't they cute? They came with envelopes too and were in the original box which she has.
Don't you just love Miss Chiquita Banana? That book was printed in 1950. The other two are Good Housekeeping ones.
We're addicted to "The Sopranos" - we didn't watch it when it was first broadcast - it's a great show, we'll be sad when we get to the end, we're going to finish up Season 3 tonight. I found this book at the same shop as the pink bowl, it was strange, there were two the very same there, I paid $1 - I'm planning to go through it and probably use it for SMASHing.
I had a lucky day on the scarf front- Salvation Army had a rack full and a plastic milk box full - how nice they had a chair there so I sit down and go through the whole box. All of the scarves were $1 - come to think of it, I think just about everything I bought was a $1. I found three Vera's..
I picked out all of these for resale - the big grey scarf on the end - it's a Mercedes Benz silk scarf, hopefully, somebody needs a scarf like that!
Gary was talking about the little wooden spoons the other day that used to come with sundaes - remember those? Lo and behold, yesterday at Home Sense, I found this ice cream set - paper cups and wooden spoons!

I haven't written a blog post in a week - we were in Toronto last weekend and heading to Michigan this weekend, so I better get caught up. I've been on a berry picking frenzy - I went picking blueberries again this week, that is 6 litres I've picked - they are just so plentiful this year - and they're so good! Yesterday I picked raspberries, I have to say, that is my least favourite berry to pick - the lady put me in not a great row - it was hard work - I probably picked more than I needed to because I ended up being able to make two batches of jam. Raspberry jam will be the one I'll be sharing this year..
I was bagging up my blueberries for the freezer and I took a notion to make blueberry muffins - I used a recipe on All Recipes - I've never tried it before but judging by the look and aroma of them - they're going to be good.
We went to Toronto last weekend - Carla was running the 20 k in the Beaches Jazz Tune Up Fun Run - but, that wasn't until Sunday - on Saturday, Carla and I took off for St. Jacobs, we toured the farmers market and then hit the antique markets - sadly, purchases were just about non existent. We had a great day though, because all the men folk were off at the Canadian Open Golf Tournament!
Have you ever seen a spoon bracelet? I didn't have any purchases at this one particular shop - these bracelets were in a bowl at the cash, I bought one for myself and one for Carla, it's her birthday next week. The tag on it read Grosevnor, 1921, I think it's so neat and it has a magnetic clasp which I like, it's a really unique bracelet! Excuse the picture, it's not the best, but I just can't take another one!!
Do you ever feel that you go away and you don't take enough pictures, that happened this weekend, I took my good camera with me but it never moved from the trunk, I just took a few with my phone. I plan to do better this weekend!
How's that for a giant zucchini? I love fresh Ontario peaches! We went to Freelton, that's where I purchased these next times. We also split the sweetest box of vintage children's Christmas cards - but, we forgot to split them, so I'll share those when I get them. She spotted them so I guess she'll be keeping the box.

Finally, I found myself a Gurley candle. I bought one online last year after reading so much about them - this is the first one I've ever seen in a shop!!
This Eloise Wilkin book was my only purchase at one of the antique markets at St. Jacobs - as always, the illustrations are just so sweet!
This book is so nice - I picked it up at a Value Village - it appears that it was a library book - it's full of vintage pictures of old Hallmark cards, there's text too, it's going to be interesting to read.
I also found a few Vera's - two on my trip, and two yesterday - the yellow sheer one was only 25 cents - no scarf was more than $1.99.
Sunday was the big run - here's Carla at the half way point - 20 k in 1 hour, 47 minutes - that's nothing to sneeze at!!
I managed to SMASH the race - and that's the only SMASH page I've done this week, I sure wish I had taken more pictures.
