Mini Pumpkin Donut Muffins

If you're looking for something with just a hint of pumpkin, here's a great little recipe that I pinned today - you can read the original recipe right here at the Living Lou blog.  I've made plain mini donut muffins before and they are such little morsels of tastiness - these ones rate a close second! Here's the recipe for the plain ones that I pinned from All Recipes - either recipe is great - so easy and so tasty!!  I just had to share!!!

You have to eat these quickly, like the first day, we didn't and they became very wet!!!

More Stuff, Thrifted and Otherwise

I made the rounds yesterday at the thrifts, I think I spent a whopping $4.50 - you know those are going to be small finds..

These were unopened, but not anymore - a pack of 8 Hallmark Halloween party invitations that sold for 60 cents, I paid 50 cents.

These older Old Maid cards were in a bag at Value Village, I just wanted those cards, my kids used to have them in the plastic case, that's the only reason I wanted them, they're not even the same set they had, but.....

One lone Vera came home with me, it's not a beautiful pattern, that's for sure, another one added to the collection.

I bought this book at a little shop on our way home, in Maine.  I was so happy with this find - I see them on Ebay for not very much and I didn't pay much but I know that around this area that anything Dionne would go much higher.  I did a blog post in June on the Dionne Quints after I visited their childhood home which is only 2 1/2 hours from where I live - here is that post and also a page that I SMASHed on that day.  I won't go into all that again as I did touch on their life in the previous post.  They were just the cutest!

I forgot to share this from the 70 Mile Yard Sale - somehow my Hands Down game is gone, my kids used to play with it when we went home, well, now we have another one for the future, I left it there.  I loved that game!!

I brought a couple of watches back with me - I know nothing about them, but the one in the box is very unique, it was used but the box is like new and it has the price tag hanging on it.   I guess they belonged to someone in my family bu tI don't know who!    I'm going to use them for decoration.

This came from my mother-in-law's house, someone had a prize winning dog but we're not positive who that was, they did well at that dog show back in 1949.

This old photo album is full of greeting cards from the 70's - it's so neat, I have a hankie holder in the same kind of suede material.  Some of the etchings are original, others were written on it.

It Was A SMASHing Weekend!!

Carla came home this weekend and we SMASHed and SMASHed some more.  I gave her the International book in the spring, she and her beau went off on an adventure to England and Scotland, since I was so hooked on SMASHing, I wanted to share with her and what a great way to document her big trip.  This weekend was the first chance to get it started, she had to come here because, of course, I have all the supplies, although now my stash has been decreased!!

Over a period of 24 hours, she SMASHed 25 pages - but she didn't get finished before she had to go home.  By next time, hopefully, I will have a few more supplies stocked up.  Here are a few of her pages, I think she did just a great job!!

By later in the day today, the table was much more in disarray.

I didn't do nearly the amount of pages that she did, I worked on my International book too - I did a few pages on my PEI trip, I'm still plugging away at it.  I also did a few pages in my Red Doodle - I'm nearly finished - my first SMASH book to complete.  SMASHing is a lot of fun!!!

No weekend home would be complete without a bit of game playing too and a few snacks - it was a fun weekend - she'll be back to SMASH some more!!  SMASH ON!!!

Show and Tell

This is going to be a mixed post - things I brought from "home" and a few thrifty finds...there's not many of those though, I noticed at a couple of thrifts yesterday that they had some Christmas out, it was pretty junky though and surely nothing worth bringing home.  

But, if there wasn't Christmas there was Halloween - I've seen this little guy so many times on Pinterest - he's cute!!  This is the second blow mold I've bought lately that had no cord but that's an easy fix - he was $1.99 at Value Village.  I know these lights aren't old but they're the big old fashioned ones, I love them!  I don't think they were ever out of the box.

I hit the jackpot when I was on vacation, I found fifteen Vera scarves!  One was a duplicate so that was sent off to my friend, Carol.  Not one scarf was more than $2.99, some were even 99 cents - many of these were wing tip ones and many seem to be in shades of red, grey and black.  See the white one in the upper right corner, that was waiting here in the mail for me when I got home, friend Holly spotted her first Vera and sent it to me - thank you so much!!!

When we went back to Prince Edward Island in June, we were helping to clean out my mother-in-law's house - I brought back a few things from there..

I have more than enough of my Mom's dishes - but I had to take something from this other house - this is such a pretty plate - it's Lord Neilson Ware, made in England.

This is the dinnerware that my mother-in-law and her mother used for years - I've seen this numerous times in antique shops, it's a pretty pattern - Belle Fiore Solian Ware, made in England - all I wanted was a couple of plates.  This jug looks pretty old to me, it's a bit odd looking, I guess that's why I took it, it has no markings.

I thought this old tobacco tin was cute - it has tobacco tax stamps on the side of it from Maine.

I gave these Hummels to Mom back in the 70's - guess I liked the red heads back then too, who knew that Carla would be born a red head years later.....

I know Mom bought this at a yard sale - she is just too cute.  She still has the original sticker on the bottom - Chase, made in Japan.

And, then there are some books... A Dragon for Danny Dennis - it's a Whitman Fuzzy Wuzzy Book and The Little Penguin, a Junior Elf Book.  The New Century Reader is for the first year, the book has an inscription dated, Christmas 1912.  The other book that is all scribbed over was my Arithmetic book, maybe grade 1??

I also found a bunch of old newspapers, - I have yet to go through them but there could be a post coming from those.  The paper was the night edition of  Toronto Telegram, June 5, 1968 - the day Robert F. Kennedy was shot.  

I'll be also doing a post on old greeting cards - I have a lot now - cards in bags, scrapbooks, albums - oh, dear.....

Depression Glass and What Else?

Mom loved dishes - she seemed to really like depression glass, particularly pink and green.  I never took much stock of these dishes before but now I wish I had and maybe I would know more and be able to identify them.    I brought back a few and also her trusty identification book, but when you don't know much about depression glass, it's not easy to pick the patterns out of a book.  I know it won't be long after I post this that I'll get some help.

I've been trying for a couple of days to get the right light to take pictures in the house, but it's just not working so I dragged them all outside - at least you can see some of the pattern.

This is a very delicate dish - maybe for candy?

I know this belonged to my grandmother, I included it as it's so very pretty - she used to keep change in it.  It's a pretty fancy bowl for that!

This belonged to her too, it came out at Christmas only, it was for grapes and apples.

The 70 Mile Yard Sale

I'm back from my trip "home" to Prince Edward Island, we HAD to stay until Sunday as last weekend was the 70 Mile Yard Sale.  It's a shopping frenzy, cars and people everywhere along the route, I found a few things, I don't think any item cost more than $1 - I have one regret and it is just plain stupidity on my part, I saw a turquoise Pyrex bowl, now, this was coming on the end of the day and we had been on the road since 8 - I should have looked on my phone to see the picture of what I had, I didn't even think of that, I know now that was the one bowl I needed to complete that set!!!  Buyers remorse on that one!!

They were just setting up at our first stop - one item bought there and it's a cutie - the Lefton sticker is still on the bottom and it plays "Jingle Bells" - $1.

Another $1 spent on this blowmold - I saw some gigantic candy cane ones, but they were really too big - too big to drag back here and too big to store.  As it is, we had to move some of our blowmolds to the attic!

The lady at this sale wanted me to take the whole box of Christmas, that would have been a complete waste, all I found were these two felt Santa's.

This little girl has lost her bell, but I don't care, these two little ornaments will look real cute on my red Christmas shelf.  She was made in Japan.

I have a Tom and Jerry bowl and one cup, it's not the same as these cups, but I don't care about that either, I'll just use them for decoration anyway.  These Hazel Atlas cups were 25 cents each!

That's it for Christmas purchases - onward to the rest of the things I bought.  Our local grocery store when I was growing up was Lucky Dollar, I had to buy this ashtray - it's a good collectible.  I bought the labels because they were local too, Fraser's Cannery was just across the water from my home and the canned chicken was so good!!   We still have glasses like this at home, Schwartz mustard came in them, I have never seen one with a label, it was $1 too.  Later on we saw a bigger Schwartz peanut butter glass, it was $10 - at a yard sale!!!  That's not a yard sale price!!!

An old friend was having a sale - her mother used to sell Avon, she had a box of stuff left, still in the original boxes and not opened - and she had these, she gave them to me..Avon Calling....

This little bag of goodies only cost me $1 - I was taken with the little booklets.  The Norcross Blue Book from 1951 - the lady that owned this was using it as a mini journal - she wrote down her household jobs - on Oct. 28, 1955 she washed the window sill, windows inside and out, complete.  The Russels were for  dinner, the menu consisted of - cranberry juice, mashed potatoes, carrots & peas, Swiss Steak, butterscotch rolls (which I've never heard of) and Pompadour Pudding, never heard of that one either.    The mini coil booklet has trip expenses - the people were from New Jersey and drove to Florida - a few of their expenses were 21 cents for ice cream, postcards were 3 cents, $5 for overnight stay, $1 for repairs to car - it's pretty neat!

The last time I was home I passed these by at a local flea market, I sent my great aunt back for them, $2 - not bad for some vintage Fire King shakers, I had these on Instagram and somebody suggested using them for mini vases - great idea!

See this Rubbermaid container - it's full of stuff I brought back  - things that were Mom's and a few things that belonged to my mother-in-law - I have lots to share, including a lot of Vera scarves!   I'll be sharing this post with Thriftasaurus, Junkin Joe, Thursday Favorite Things , Vintage Thingie Thursday and Rednesday, because there's a fair amount of red in this post!
