My Favourite Pyrex

How did your Pyrex collection begin?  Mine began back in 2010, I read an article about it and that set me off on a hunt for just any piece of Pyrex I could find, it didn't matter if I liked it or not, I had to buy it!!!  I have since come to my senses, I don't need every piece out there and most importantly, I don't have the space for it.  I love every piece I have though and I have quite a few patterns, promotionals, carafes,  bowls galore, casseroles...  I'm not lacking in the Pyrex department, that's for sure!! 

 

My first piece was my Mom's big yellow bowl from the primary set - what was your first piece?  Believe me, it didn't take me long to find the whole set, thrifted, of course.  She  had the Colonial Mist set of mixing bowls and the Autumn Harvest Bake, Serve and Store set - I would never give any of those away.  At one time I also had a Colonial Mist Cinderella bowl set, what was I thinking, those bowls  take up so much space, I've since sold it!!

So, do you have a favourite piece of Pyrex?  I have a few - but the Charcoal Snowflake pieces have to be my very favourite, I need one more piece - the 1.5 quart casserole.  I have never seen one of these in a thrift, I was lucky enough to find them over time in antique shops when I was away on trips - it'll just be luck if I ever find that other piece.

Fridgies are probably my favourite pieces - they're definitely my most used pieces - these are my complete sets, but I have more individual ones...  These fridgies would be my Pyrex weakness, I think I HAVE to buy them!!

I like my Moon Deco too - it's a special one, my son gave it to me for Christmas.

I have one piece of Pyrex that came in the original box - this "Big Bertha" Homestead casserole - my daughter found it at a thrift - it's so great to cook a ham in.

I would love to have more Christmas themed Pyrex, but I consider myself lucky to have this one lone piece.  Christmas Pyrex is just not something I ever hope to see at a thrift shop, but I can hope....but until then, I'll put this beautiful Golden Leaf out every year!

When you are a new collector, the hunt for Pyrex can be so much fun, oh, to see one of those beauties sitting at the thrift store for cheap - it made for some perfect days!!

Pickins' are Slim

I hadn't hit my usual thrift stores since before Christmas, yesterday I took off for the city - it was disheartening - I went to my four spots, which by the way are all on the same street, you can really get the disappointment over quickly - and I was disappointed, not a thing to be had - it was so bad!!!  The stores were quite bare of the things that I like to look at - not a nice collectible, not a Vera scarf, not a scrap of Christmas left over.  So, I headed out to my last chance spot which is about 10 minutes out of town - I actually bought something out there and to make my post, a more worthwhile, I took some pictures of things I saw there.

Why do I like these little fridgies so much??  Really, what am I going to do with them all!!  I just can't leave any fridgie behind, I had to bring these two from the Homestead set home with me!!

See what I mean - that's twenty little 501's that I have!!!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw these last night - follow me right here - Instagram is the best best of my phone, there's new people to follow every day and just no end to the pictures!!  So, this bunch of miniature forks, knives and spoons were wrapped up in an elastic in a jar - I really had no business buying these little Made in Japan beauties, I've found a couple of sets before, gave one away, sold another one - I guess I better keep these ones!!

I sure didn't break the bank on those purchases, I have been thinking about something I saw though, keep reading....

I have a couple of pieces of JAJ Toledo, I don't need anymore, but I nearly took the Pyrex custard cups, I have custard cups that were Mom's, these were a bit different, I held them for a while but put them back down!  Hah!!

That happy face jar was just hoping I was going to take him home!!!  The made in Japan canisters were very nice but not a whole set.  The Easter bunny cookie jar was huge - you'd need a large batch to fill that guy.

I stared at these glasses, I thought they were a bit strange, but I feel now that  I should have bought them - what do you think?

It's Cave People, Aladdin and more - I know they're old and I know somebody is going to tell me I shouldn't have left them there and that's going to make me regret leaving them behind!!    They're different!!

Pretty Pyrex

The Pyrex posts are few and far between these days but I'm going to share a couple of pictures with you today that I was taking for a Pyrex Photo contest - the details are on Fresh Pastry Stand's Facebook page.  

The full set of pink fridgies was probably my best find, EVER, at Value Village, they're in mint condition, that's a day I won't soon forget.  The post that I wrote about finding those beauties is my second most viewed one, I still see the original picture all over Pinterest, they are a beautiful set!   The delphite blue pieces were given to me - one of the small fridgies even has the old blue lid, those pieces were made in Canada.

I shared these bowls not too long ago, they are all thrifted pieces too.  Can you see a pattern with the colors?  It's for the contest!

Here's a couple more pretty blue pieces - two sugar bowls that were both made in Canada, both pieces were also thrifted. 

I feel so lucky to have found all these great pieces at thrift store prices because I sure don't see much anymore.

My Pink Fridgies Post has climbed quickly in my stats, it has only been posted a week and it's now my most viewed post and it is surely the post where I received the most comments.  Thanks to everyone out there who commented and is loving those pink fridgies from afar..  I wish everyone could be so lucky.....

Here's What I Brought Home..

I had to go to the city yesterday so I set the GPS for yard sales and set out early - that did me no good, I purchased nothing at any of those sales.  I followed some signs and this is what I found - Homestead 473, 474, and 475, with lids - for $3 - can you believe that?  If I found nothing else, I would have been happy!

I know a lot of people don't care for the Homestead pattern, but I think it's kind of nice - these are all the pieces I own..

Three pieces of this I found at the Salvation Army - the two little 501's, with lids and the yellow/orange 502, no lid, I paid $2 each.  I got home and started researching just what set they went with - it's Daisy and I had the orange 503!  I have a set!!  I haven't found fridgies in so long,  earlier in the week I found some Snowflake, now this.....

Butterfly Gold 401 - I have this one, maybe someone else needs it, I paid $1.99 at Value Village

Butterfly Gold lid for 043 - I don't have the casserole, maybe it will turn up some day. I don't think I've ever seen a patterned lid like this before at Value Village -  it was 99 cents..

I'm still having luck finding Vera scarves - I actually found one at at yard sale, the flowered one on the bottom, the other two I bought at Salvation Army, $1 for each one.  The flowered one on the left is a mystery to me - it has the Vera signature but the tag is what is strange  - it is sewn on and made in Korea, I thought all of the scarves were made in Japan.  Is is a fake?  is it a newer one?  Anyone have any ideas??

Finally, I found an Eloise Wilkin book - Where Did the Baby Go?    I've just noticed the Hymns book on Pinterest this week, it's so cute...

These were just too cute - 50 cents!
