Little Finds

I sure don't seem to find much anymore that I want to buy at the thrifts but I still go, I'm always on the lookout for scarves, but two of my regular spots have put the silky scarves away in lieu of wintery scarves, people wear scarves all year round so I don't see the reasoning behind that - they never have that many and they don't take up that much space.  Here's what I did bring home.

I've never seen a blowmold like this one - it's about 9 inches across, great for a shelf!  I like it!!

I hadn't been to the flea market since the beginning of the summer, not much there I was interested in, but they had a few tables of Christmas - I have to buy old wrapping paper, I just have to..

Anytime I see these, I buy them too, one still has the original Kmart sticker on it, we haven't had Kmart here in Canada for quite a while now.

Another thing I can't seem to pass up now - old children's playing cards..

I picked up this old Simplicity clown pattern - SMASHed it!!

I was showing my sister in law my scarves that I had picked up when I was home, she goes to Value Village every week, that's another section for her to check out and she did,  this was in my mailbox this week!

She texted me from the 70 mile yard sale - did I want this catalogue, sure, I did - 25 cents for this 1940 Simpsons Spring and Summer edition - the front and back covers are missing but that's fine, I'll have to share some of the great fashions another day.

So, nothing big but things that I like and things that didn't cost much!

$2 Spent

I have a memory of a piece of chalkware hanging in Mom's kitchen, I very seldom every see any and when I do, it's mostly always all chipped to pieces.  As soon as I spotted these two pieces at the Saint Vincent de Paul shop, I grabbed them, except for one small chip, they look like they had been maybe never used. The two of them were $1 - I had the perfect spot for one and the other one is going to get a home somewhere in the kitchen too.

 

I think they're beautiful!!  

I did make the rounds of the shops the other day, it was pretty sad but I did come home with another Vera scarf and that makes me happy!!!    This wingtip is really pretty, I shelled out $1 for it!! My Vera scarf collection now totals 217 - I love the thrill of the hunt for these scarves!!

Neat Stuff!!

Another weekend gone, another Saturday of many yard sales, the post where everyone puts their ad was full, I picked three, I just can't be bothered to go around to all those sales, it's just not worth it for me, I think I picked the right ones because I purchased at all three.

The first one was advertised as an estate sale, still not an estate sale like so many of you are used to but for me, it was fine, nothing was priced, just give whatever, they just wanted to get rid of the stuff, great!!

I finally found some Gurley candles - finally!!  I know the angel is missing an eye - I'll fix her up!!  I was so happy to find these, I thought of Vintage Sister Erica right away, I knew she would be so happy that I finally came upon some of these candles!!!  And, she was, because I posted them on Instagram

This lady must have loved Christmas candles, there was a table full - I bought this little box of miniatures - all never used and only one missing, made in Japan.

I already have one of these Santa's and the little girl, but these are in much better shape.

I bought these for display - but you know, the French Fry cutter is a whole lot sturdier than the one we have!  Aren't the graphics great?

I saw one, I saw two, then the third - I grabbed them all - little Federal bowls that match my mixing bowls I found last year at a yard sale.

I brought something home for the game room too..

At the next sale, I bought this lone Christmas mug, it was an older lady and her son, the son says 25 cents, oh, no, the lady says, that's Christmas, it's more, $1 - I laughed , I asked if there was a set, she said there were two, but I guess only made it - it's beat up but that doesn't matter in the least to me.

I would have stayed longer at this last sale but the bugs were so bad and everything that I was interested in was in boxes under the tables, but Ifound something before the bugs carried me away..  I don't really know why I bought this, but I did - I paid $1 for everything I took home.

This is the neatest old book, copyright 1952, I'm going to read this -  good for a laugh - women back in the 50's had so much work to do - care of underwear - wash underwear after each wearing, mend your underwear when the first split appears, when underwear fades, dip it in a dye of the original color!  Did you know the color white is bad after forty?  Oh, this is going to be fun!!

In the afternoon, I moved on to the thrifts, only luck at one - I paid $1 for all this stuff...  my thrifting trip was worthwhile, I found a Vera!!

I was carrying around this thermos , a guy who I believe to be a dealer, stopped me and said the thermos had a crack in the lid, I said it didn't matter, I was buying it for display!!  

These aren't old and they were unopened, I thought they were just regular playing cards, I  thought the diner was cute, I opened them this morning, they're all different - love them!    Perfect for SMASHing!!

I paid less than $10 for everything I bought on Saturday!   I like it!!

Yesterday we went to get flowers, the flea market that had the large fruit pail that I posted a few weeks ago was on the way, I've been thinking about it ever since so many people told me that I should get it, it was priced at $25.  The more I thought about it the more I knew I had to have it.  It was still there yesterday, I offered $15, nothing doing, which I figured, but I got it for $20 - not bad for this huge old pail!

And to finish off the day, I bought these swizzle sticks for $2.

I know I was lucky on Saturday, that doesn't happen very often around here!!

Thanks for the Gifts!!

Who doesn't love to get packages in the mail and when they're unexpected - it's even nicer.  Before I went away, I got a nice little package from Erica - that would be the Erica from Golden Egg Vintage - I sent her a little something since she's been laid up with that pesky cast and then she sent something back, she didn't have to do that, I so appreciate it!!   I sure hope she's feeling much better, I know she's looking forward to getting back to the thrifts on her own steam...

Erica thought of me with this Vera scarf - we say it's the Canadian Maple Leaf - she also sent along a summery tea towel and a cute little set of note cards - thank you so much -

From Miss Maddie

Miss Maddie sent me this sweet book - her mother is another Erica and her blog is The Adventures of Two (Pyrex Crazy) Thrifting Sisters - she writes along with her sister, Hanna - they find so many great things, if you haven't read it, you really should!   Anyway, Erica often mentions her daughter, Maddie, who is also a collector of vintage goodness, I sent Maddie a little package for her crafty ideas and her collection - lo and behold, she mailed this off to me - because she had a double.  Thanks, Maddie - that is so kind of you!!!  

Vintage Scarves and A Little Bit More

I found some scarves the other day, the same day I found all that pink goodness - I just couldn't include scarves in that post, it was all for showcasing that beautiful set of pink fridgies..

It hasn't been easy finding signature scarves lately to resell, I do find Vera but they're for me!!!  I did find a few,  my biggest find was a  Gucci scarf, which still after researching online, I don't know too much about  -  some of the Gucci scarves are resold for very high prices, does anyone out there know anything about pricing them?

I found it at the Salvation Army, it's huge...

Vera for 75 cents!

I don't buy many scarves online but this one took my eye, it's an early Vera - after I won it I found out I was bidding against my friend, Carol - oh, no - sorry about that!!

This reusable bag from Trader Joe's  took my eye when I was passing by that section at Value Village - I have quite enough reusable bags of my own, , it's just so cute and we don't have that store here in Canada, it still has the original tag, I paid $2.99

How cute is this little guy that was made in Japan, he was $1.

I'm excited to show off this lid...

It's the Zodiac 2.5 quart!!  I found it yesterday at a Value Village when I was away - $5.99.  I couldn't believe it and it's in pretty near perfect condition.

I found this ladybug Vera there too, $2.99

This one arrived in the mail last week  - a small square with  a tiny Vera signature and no copyright - my first one of these..

Hex 404 arrived in the mail today.  I can count on one hand the pieces I've ever bought online, it's just too expensive for me - but the price and shipping were right on this. I paid $9.99.  I love the design!!!

We took a day trip yesterday - drove to Fort St. Joseph, it is located at the southernmost tip of  St. Joseph Island, on Lake Huron - it was the staging ground for the the initial attack in the War of 1812 - this year is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.  It's very interesting!!!  Yes, that would be me - trying on the children's soldier costume!!  My face is usually not that shiny - it was so hot!!!

That's the view of the International Bridge between Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan - we travelled over, then we we were looking up at the bridge- we took the 2 hour Soo Locks Boat Tour - I highly recommend it!!!!  

I did run in to a Goodwill store there but sadly, no purchases were made!!  Didn't matter, I had a great day, but it was a really hot one!!
