Pickins' are Slim

I hadn't hit my usual thrift stores since before Christmas, yesterday I took off for the city - it was disheartening - I went to my four spots, which by the way are all on the same street, you can really get the disappointment over quickly - and I was disappointed, not a thing to be had - it was so bad!!!  The stores were quite bare of the things that I like to look at - not a nice collectible, not a Vera scarf, not a scrap of Christmas left over.  So, I headed out to my last chance spot which is about 10 minutes out of town - I actually bought something out there and to make my post, a more worthwhile, I took some pictures of things I saw there.

Why do I like these little fridgies so much??  Really, what am I going to do with them all!!  I just can't leave any fridgie behind, I had to bring these two from the Homestead set home with me!!

See what I mean - that's twenty little 501's that I have!!!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw these last night - follow me right here - Instagram is the best best of my phone, there's new people to follow every day and just no end to the pictures!!  So, this bunch of miniature forks, knives and spoons were wrapped up in an elastic in a jar - I really had no business buying these little Made in Japan beauties, I've found a couple of sets before, gave one away, sold another one - I guess I better keep these ones!!

How cute is this hot plate?

I sure didn't break the bank on those purchases, I have been thinking about something I saw though, keep reading....

I have a couple of pieces of JAJ Toledo, I don't need anymore, but I nearly took the Pyrex custard cups, I have custard cups that were Mom's, these were a bit different, I held them for a while but put them back down!  Hah!!

That happy face jar was just hoping I was going to take him home!!!  The made in Japan canisters were very nice but not a whole set.  The Easter bunny cookie jar was huge - you'd need a large batch to fill that guy.

I stared at these glasses, I thought they were a bit strange, but I feel now that  I should have bought them - what do you think?

It's Cave People, Aladdin and more - I know they're old and I know somebody is going to tell me I shouldn't have left them there and that's going to make me regret leaving them behind!!    They're different!!

Today I'm linking up with Dawn over at We Call it Junkin, Andrea at Junkin Joe and Diann & Linda at Thrifty Things Friday - drop by these great blogs!!

  2. I love the 'fridgies' as you call them, too. I have a couple that were my grandmother's, a few I have collected (several different sizes, including the larger yellow one) and I even have them in the Fire King milk glass painted with the fruit by Gay Fad Studio. I have a number of pieces in that design, including the medium and small fridgies, a couple of square cake 'pans', the clear cream and sugar, the 3 piece mixing bowl set, and more. I think I need to do a blog post on those one day soon! I enjoyed your thrifting trip ... pieces like those you saw today are very hard to find here in northern Georgia!

  3. My thrifting shopping yesterday was also "slim pickens" plus the ladies were right in the middle of "rearranging" everything. I took my hubbie along, and he found 10 ink cartridges for our old printer (30 cents each in still sealed wrappers!). He hit the jackpot. The only one opened printed great ;) Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  4. I don't particularly like those caveman frosted glasses, however, I did see them in the Freelton Market today!

I had the can't leave a fridgie motto, but I can only have so many primary 503 & 502. I did get a 502 yesterday, just for the lid.

I had some luck thrifting - great start to the new year!!

  5. I love that set of utensils and the fridgies. I was buying one when I found one, but had to stop. There's several in every room holding knicks and knacks!

  6. Love the fridgie stacks & the little utensils. I'm probably going to keep buying fridgies til I have them all or close to it. Great finds!

  7. I only have two yellow fridgies but I will buy if I see them. I think the caveman glasses are unusual and for that reason maybe...I'm very surprised you haven't read the Little House books. You'll like them. They aren't anything like the TV show. (I could hardly watch it) but the two hour movie to start the series was faithful to the books.

  8. I'm afraid I went a little wild at my favorite stores today, but who can pass up a 100% cotton napkin for 99 cents? I bought twelve of the luscious navy blue and probably could have used twelve more. I decided that whimsy is what I need in my tablescaping, so I would be all for the funny glasses in your stash. :)

  12. What a great collection of fridgies you have! I'd display them just like that, looks great. The glasses are interesting...the guy is dragging the woman by the hair! Oh my... Thanks so much for sharing this at my History & Home link party. Take care - Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  13. Love your fridgie stack! What a great idea for a photo. Hmmmm....I may have to try it :-)

So, you know how I am with vintage glassware. I have seen all of those sets in antique malls before but never in thrifts. Had I come across them in the thrifts, I most likely would have left them behind. They just aren't my style and I'm not sure if they are big sellers so I don't think they would be worth buying to resell. So don't feel bad about leaving them (unless you really wanted them for yourself, then RUN back and get them!).

    Have an awesome weekend,

    Erica

  17. All those fridgies, how cute! I cut off my Pyrex buying quite a while ago...but if I see a very special piece I'll go for it.

Love those glasses, but I have a glass problem & would have had a hard time leaving them. :)
