More Vera for Me!!

I don't usually do an entire post on finding Vera scarves but I am today because in the past week I've found seven vintage Vera scarves - that brings my collection up to two hundred and fifty one scarves!  I'm thrilled to find that many, I just have to share!!

I hadn't been to the local thrifts in a month since I'd been away, they must have been waiting there just for me.

Four beauties at the Salvation Army - $1 each.  I love to find those big bold geometric patterns.

At the other thrift down the road, I found two more, I couldn't believe my luck.  This was crazy, I only paid 25 cents each!!!

I was away this past weekend, no trip away is complete without getting to a thrift or two - I was rewarded at a Value Village with this cute piano key scarf - I paid $2.99 for this one, still that's not a bad price.

My week was complete - it makes me happy when I come out of a thrift with some Vera!!

My blogging friend, Joann is starting a new linky party, it's called Vintage Bliss Tuesday and as you may have guessed, it's about  all those wonderful thrift and yard sale items you find, as well as vintage things you may have in your home that are part of your family history - link your post right here, that's what I'm going to do!!

Milestone - Two Hundred Vera Scarves!!

I now own 201 Vera scarves with these finds yesterday..

This is what two hundred Vera scarves look like..beautiful!!

I began this craze after reading about them on numerous blogs, I thought that it was something I should look for, well, that was November 2011 and this is what it has become.  My good friend Carol jumped on the Vera bandwagon shortly after that and now we snap a pic as soon as a new scarf is  purchased, we just have to see what the other has found!!

Here's the first one I found back in 2011...

There are just so many patterns out there, very rarely, do I ever find a duplicate - florals, geometrics, stripes, sheers, solids, leaves and trees, paisleys, the list goes on.  And then there are long scarves, small and large squares, wing tips, tube scarves, tie scarves - made of silk, cotton, polyester, wool, oh, my , there are just so many....

I have found most of my scarves at the thrifts, very few have I purchased on line.  I actually found one at a yard sale once!!  Fellow bloggers have sent me scarves and of course, Carol and I have traded any duplicates.  I found some Vera's that my Mom had and I also have one that belonged to my mother in law - those are special ones  which I never expected to find!  I look for them wherever I go - I've brought scarves home from Florida, from Michigan, from Maine, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island but the majority of them have come from right here in Ontario.  I will continue to look for these beautiful pieces wherever I go!!

The very best day I ever had was finding twelve scarves at a thrift - it was really an exciting day for a Vera collector - here's that post if you'd like to relive that day with me!!

The one good thing about collecting scarves, they don't take up much space.  I keep them in this basket and that is my book that I record each scarf in.

I love the thrill of the hunt for these scarves, I can tell a lot of them just by the look and feel of them now and when I see that Vera signature and sometimes the ladybug, it's coming home with me!!

Check out the link up at We Call it Junkin, always lots of interesting posts there.  Today is the last day for Thrifty Things Friday, Linda and Diann have put a lot of work into this great little party  - but things change...  thanks to the both of you!!

Just a Few More Little Things

Saturday I headed out to the yard sales, with my husband in tow - most Saturday's he's at the golf course and Sunday's too, but six weeks ago he pinched a nerve in his back/neck area - he hasn't been able to golf since - thankfully, it is improving daily and the chiropractor has helped him so much.  The poor guy, that's about all I can say, it's a very painful thing!

It ended up to be great though, we bought a few things, had breakfast out, went to a Mennonite farm and got a bunch of vegetables, which are just oh so good!!!  Last week I did a SMASH page on The Pop Shoppe, I used to love going there and getting all the flavors of pop, it's in very selective stores now, well, he went into a convenience store and came out with a cool Pop Shoppe Lime Ricky - it was so so good!!!

SMASH page on The Pop Shoppe - do you remember it?

Love Lime Ricky - what a treat!!!

Green & yellow beans, peas, onions, carrots, potatoes, zucchini and cucumbers - so good!

He picked this one up - made in the Chun Yee Toy Factory, Shanghai, China

It looks like it was hardly used - al the marbles are there and the board is not worn at all

I had this very Bingo game!!  I know people use bingo cards in their SMASH books, if you're looking for an old one, let me know and I'll mail one off to you.  This game was made in London, Ontario - it's not very often you find things like this made in Canada anymore

The wooden checkers were made in London, Ontario

Just an empty match box

We were looking at these, I wasn't really thinking of buying them, he said " you better get those" so I did - click on the pic so you can read the note - poor Scott did not get to keep his set.  The spoon is an odd shape and the other utensil - I guess it's for smashing food, I don't know - do you?The set was made in Germany by Wirths

How cute is this made in Japan little deer?

More scarves on the fence!  These I will be listing for sale - I thought maybe I had a Chanel scarf, no such luck, it's an imitation!  I used to find signature scarves always when I went thrifting, not so much anymore and my Vera's are even harder to find.

Vera on the Fence

Yes, it's another Vera post - as long as I keep finding them, I'll be sharing them - don't they look pretty on the fence?  Of course, I had to hit the thrift stores when I was home in Prince Edward Island and once again, I had success.  There is one shop that has so many scarves, it is a whole bin full, you have to dig   down deep to get a look at them all, it's been worth it every time I've gone there though.  There are a few that didn't come from the thrifts though - the peach belonged to my mother in law, I was sure surprised to find it!

I had a  package waiting for me when I got home, from the very generous Erica from Golden Egg Vintage - thanks so much, Erica - she sent me the dotty square and also the paisley one - this one is real special, it's a wool Vera, I don't have one and have never seen one before.  And, they both have the luck ladybug!!

Before I went away, I had a package from Sir Thrift A Lot - he sent me four Vera napkins - I really appreciate it, thanks so much.   People from Blogland are the best!!!

Red Haired Mermaids!

It happened to me again, I think I found something really good at Value Village, which probably should have been in the showcase.  When I got to the cash, the cashier said - "those are collectibles" - that would be why I picked them up!  I'm following the advice of  Thrifter Sister Erica -  she buys anything with Japan on it, so I am too - that's if it's cute, well, this was way too cute....

They're Lefton Mermaids - I'm partial to anything with red hair because I did give birth to a red head!  The only marking was Japan and 3107 - I can see where the Lefton sticker was - what do you think?  There's no a chip on them, they're not faded - they're the sweetest.  I paid $5.99.

I researched them online, there are plenty of images, many that have been sold on Ebay and Etsy and a few listings now for buy it now - ranging from $150 and up!    That was definitely the steal of the week!!

This old reader looks like it was never used - it's from 1966 - I only know the Dick and Jane readers, I've never seen this one before.  Every chapter is about David...

This isn't an old book - it's the story of Anne before she came to Green Gables.  PEI is the land of Anne, my home, so I had to get it and see just how Anne really did end up with Matthew and Marilla.

I found three Vera's in the last couple of weeks - it's funny, for a while I don't find any wing tip or split tip, whichever you want to call then and now that's all I've found lately - each one was $1 - that's only my second solid colour Vera - I would never really know except it still has the tag.

I had mail this week from Astrid - her blog is Fab and Thirty-Something, check out her blog and maybe start following her - she finds some great vintage things  and in her travels she picked this Vera up for me - I love it - thanks, so much.  And, look at the cute card she sent - it's sweet!   I'm going to SMASH it!

This week is my two year blogiversary - check out the prize here - leave a comment on that post or on my  Facebook page - you just might win!!

Look What I Found!

Do you like the selection of bed sheets now?  They mostly all seem to be solid colours now and every set of sheets is about the thread count, when did that word become so important in the world of sheets?   I bought a nice pair after Christmas, a higher thread count than I've ever bought before - I don't like them - they're rough, wrinkly and why can't we find sheets made in Canada or the US any more, the ones I bought were made in China.   So, when I saw these yesterday at Value Village - new in the package - they caught my attention, I hesitated at first but came to my senses, real quick!

What are the chances of finding an unopened vintage pair of Wabasso sheets that were made in Canada?   Not much chance, really, but I found a set!   I know the price is a bit high for Value Village but, it's a deal, good sheets are expensive!  If you click on the pic, you can see the last part of the Kmart sticker, Kmart hasn't been in Canada for a long time, somebody  had these packed away in their linen closet for a while...

Into the washer they went..

Now they're on the bed - I think I was drawn to them because I remember Mom having Wabasso sheets and I used to have a yellow room.    I was worried that the elastic might be gone in the bottom sheet and that it might not fit on the larger mattress of today - no need to worry, everything was perfect!  They're so bright, I'm so glad I bought them, I wonder what kind of sleep we'll have tonight...

I paid 50 cents for this Made in Japan children's mug

We have all these games but I bought them for...

smashing - I'm planning to do a couple of pages on boardgames, because we love our boardgames!!

These old tags and stickers will be going to the Smash book too.  I paid only $4 for the games and stickers - there are lots of possibilities at the thrifts for smashing...

Does anyone out there know anything about these dolls??  I bought the one on the left yesterday, only because I knew she looked like my doll that I've had since I was a little girl and sure enough, they're the same - maybe sisters??  I spent a long time last night checking out Pinterest, Ebay, Google Images  - I can't find this doll anywhere.  I used to call her Debbie but I don't really know if that was her real name or just a name I used.  I have a couple more outfits for mine, including that very same skirt.

The doll is about 8 inches tall - the face are rubber, the body is not.  There are no  markings at all on their bodies.  Look at the snaps, the clothes are so cute!  Every time I've had a question like this before, someone has come through, I'll be waiting....

Last week I found a couple more Vera's for my collection

Remember the dayI found all those scarves?  I must have missed this one - but, they're all gone now....

This is such a different Vera and I have to say thank you to Paulette over at  Cheerful Thrifty Door.  Paulette found this at an estate sale and was so kind to send it to me - it's one of the more unique scarves I have.

Paulette sent me this beautiful Easter card - she found these cards which were just perfect for her because she is of Polish descent.  It's sweet!

I'll say it again - people that I've "met" in the blogging world are so generous and kind - thank you so much, Paulette.

"Like" me on Facebook - I have a page just for my blog now.

Scarves were Everywhere.....

My thrifting experience yesterday was probably one of the best I ever had, pretty close to finding the pink fridgie set which I blogged about here back in July, I thought that was pretty amazing, well, I had another day like that yesterday and it involved Vera scarves.  I still can't believe I came upon all these scarves......

This is one of my regular spots, isn't this a great mess - they just throw all the outerwear on these tables - it's full of wool scarves, mitts and hats, I haven't found any nice scarves there in a long time, I found one right off yesterday and then I noticed this bag in the lower corner, then a few more of these bags...

They were all over - the bags were not baggies, some were vacuum sealed.  I'm starting to get weak at this point, there are pretty scarves all over that I need to look at.  It was quite a task pushing everything out of the way, I think I must have been in there an hour. I looked across and here was a woman holding a bag, I stared at her for a while, willing her to put it down, she did, I grabbed it but it wasn't one I wanted.   Too bad!! I'd say that this was some old lady's scarf collection, I wonder if her family just cleaned out the drawer and donated them?  I was certainly in the right place at the very right time, I don't think many people had even looked at them yet.  I did leave a few behind though, I just hope I got all the good ones!

My arms were getting full, I found an Easter basket to carry them around in - there are 27 scarves in there!  I had no idea really how much they would be, I've never paid very much for scarves in there, but this really takes the cake - I paid 25 cents EACH!!!  Start the car and get me out of here......

I came out of there with 12 Vera Neumann scarves - actually I found the dark one earlier in the day at the SA - and it was only 50 cents.

This lady had some beautiful patterns

These two are a bit frayed on one edge, other than that, they are all in really good shape, I think some were never worn.

This one is my favourite!  This brings my collection up to 135 Vera's and yes, I do wear some of them.

I tried to take anything else that I thought would sell - 4 Echo scarves.  I listed eight scarves on Tuesday, already 32 people are watching them, I'm hoping for big things!!!

No signature on these, they're mod designs though , so they may sell

These appear to be hand made scarves by Lillian

An assortment of different brands, including an Oscar de la Renta

My only other purchase for the day!  Carla had this when she was little, a game that we gave away and shouldn't have - I've seen it a few times, I always tell her that I see it, why don't you buy it, she says, two weeks ago I saw it again, well, it was still at VV yesterday, so, now we have it!

Today I'm linking up with Thrfity Things Friday - it's Diann's 100th Thrifty Friday post - that's a lot!!  I'm also linking up with Share Your Cup Thursday - check out both of these great blogs.
