This Week in Thrifting

Forest Fancies Bake Serve Store - I had the largest one but picked up the two smaller ones - now I have a set!

Shenandoah 401, 402, and 403

This is going to be cute for storing something!

Don't get too excited - these are not original Jadeite, I know this because one had a bar code sticker on the bottom.  I don't care - they're pretty nice.

Old magazines and a Better Homes and Gardens book.

A book for Holly

Who doesn't love Charlie Brown?  First time in paperback, original price - 60 cents.
And, how much did I pay for all those goodies shown above?  $12.
At another shop I paid $1 for these Glasbake  Mugs - the color on them is just about perfect!

My friend has one of these owl planters, actually, I think it might be the very same one.  I've wanted one ever since I spotted it.  Last summer I found one but only the top part, I bought it because I never thought I'd ever find one.   I did and this one is in mint condition - but I was almost too stupid to buy it - the price was $5,  which I thought was high, I left the store but came to my senses within half an hour.   Even my husband said it was a good price - I'm glad I went back!!

I went to about ten yard sales today and this is all I came home with, well, actually they were in  a box with other Christmas ornaments but they are pretty disgusting, one guy's neck is kind of wobbly, but I think he's fixable.  That's 25 cents spent today at yard sales, last week, 50 cents spent - not going to break the bank at this rate...

Vintage Red from Around the House

I wondered what I could post for Rednesday today, I haven't had a post in a while, so thought I'd share a few red items that stay on a shelf in our basement family room.  I've already checked out some of the "red posts" at Rednesday - you should too...  And, while you're reading blogs, how about visiting at Vintage Thingie Thursday

It's my one year Blogiversary and I'm having a little draw - you can enter here - good luck!!!

This is my very own Popeye lunch box that Mom saved - and I'm glad she did.  I  lived close to the school so I only got to take my lunch on stormy days - I can still remember placing it in the extremely hot cloak room  and even that thermos didn't really do its job in that heat - the milk was warm and of course, that was back in the day when peanut butter sandwiches were allowed in school.  I've seen this box a few times in antique shops, it's not cheap by any means.  I have a little lunch box guide book, it lists this set, in mint condition, of course, at $450 for the box and $80 for the thermos.    Mine is in pretty good shape!!

Dad used to keep change in this old candy tin.  The  candy were made in the United Kingdom, it had the old  type of key to open the lid. The original price sticker is still on the top - Eaton's, 79 cents.

This lobster tin lid comes from a lobster processing factory close to my home in PEI.   I sure wouldn't mind having a tin full of lobster right now - a sandwich would taste really good for lunch!!

The Bake Rite baking cups I found a few months ago at a thrift, the original sticker is still on this one  - Domininion, 19 cents.  The Sweetheart Straws are the old fashioned paper ones - they're pink, green and white, I found them at a yard sale last year.  The Kurly Kate I found at home...

I ordered something one time on Ebay and it came in this old cigar box!

This took my eye at a shop one day - the sticker is still on the back - Fine Ironstone, a Berggren  Original.

Yard Sales Were Not Good!

The first Saturday for yard sales and I spent a whopping 50 cents and got two things for  free.    I sure hope things pick up.

These cocktail forks were 25 cents, there's one missing but they look they like were never used..

I'm on the lookout now for Sesame Street items - Holly from  Life on the Rock  collects vintage Sesame Street and a whole lot more - check out her latest finds here.  I paid 25 cents for these four books.

This is one of my free items - my husband likes rulers, this little box has one divider missing, but I thought he could use it for some sort of storage or even as an idea to make one himself.

A free 1983 Family Circle

Everything else I bought last week while out thrifting.  I paid $1 for all the books

I am hopeful this French version of the Canadian Purity cookbook will sell, I have it in English, it's a classic.

Walt Disney America

Some vintage children's books.  I had forgotten all about the story of  The Gingerbread Man - that's  not a very happy story for children, the poor gingerbread gets eaten by the sly fox!

It's not Vera, it's pretty though.  I can't find anything about it online, it's  Anne  Rothschild for Hanes...

This was a great find at Value Village, a big 045 - 2 1/2 qt. casserole, no lid, $3.99.  I  knew it was probably "Golden" something,  as I have a Golden Tulip and Golden Acorn but it stands alone as "Golden".  It was a1959 promotional, I like it!!

I'm having a little draw to celebrate my one year blogiversary- I'd sure like it if you'd stop by and leave a comment or become a new follower - click here and you'll be able to enter...   I really appreciate everyone that stops by....

And while you're browsing around, check out Flea Market Finds at Her Library Adventures.   Check out Thrifty Love too - always some neat finds over there...

It's Draw Time - 1 Year Blogiversary

On April 14th of last year, I wrote my first blog post - Birds and Owls for the Garden - a year later and I've written 98 posts!  Thanks to everyone who follows my blog and comments on a regular basis - I never imagined the fun it would be and how many new and special people I would meet in blogland.

To celebrate my first big year, you are more than welcome to enter my draw - become a new follower or leave a comment and your name will be entered in the draw which will take place next Friday, May 12th.

These are three items that I have blogged about over the past year -  a Spring Blossom  501 fridgie,  a Vera wing tip scarf and a vintage hankie.    They'll be happy in their new home, I'm sure....

Good luck to all!!

Vera Scarves

I wrote in my previous post that I found twenty Vera scarves when I was away - here they all are.

The wing tip scarves seemed to be very plentiful.

Aren't the colors beautiful?

More wing tips

Still more...

Silk Vera

This one has a large pink square in the middle

Sheer Vera - love the colors on this one...

I didn't even realize I had a ladybug Vera until I got back to the car!

These are three special ones - I found them in my mother's drawer - wish I could ask her where and when she got them....

I still can't believe I found all these scarves and it's even more amazing when you start looking online at the prices of some of them  - these scarves ranged in price from 99 cents to $2.99.

My daughter has been here for a while, sadly tomorrow is her last day - I let her wear one of my Vera's - check out her blog here and see a Vera in action!
