I Came Home with This

We headed to Michigan for the weekend - left Saturday morning and got back last night - we saw lots and bought a few neat things.  Before we were even out of Ontario we were stopping at places along the road - I love those unexpected finds.  I hoped that I would find a special piece of Pyrex, meaning a Christmas piece, but there was nothing - and I'm at the point in my collection where I don't need and want much!!

I'm going to start off with my Vera finds - I was so happy to come home with seven new scarves - we stopped at a shop along the way, a lady had a couple of tables, the first thing I spotted was a basket of scarves - oh, happy day - I hauled out four - that's the four on the left.  The other three I found yesterday at an antique mall in Michigan - my price usually for scarves is $2, maybe $2 - I went all out and spent $8 on the tire scarf - I knew it was an earlier Vera - probably from the early 1950's, it's made of pure parachute silk - it sells online for $52, I'm so glad I splurged!  And look at this little "tie scarf" - it's another different one for me -  it's called "moon and star" - I think you would cross the scarf and fasten it with a scarf pin.

Gary bought this old match box and also the wooden checkers.  These bingo cards are like the ones I used to use when I'd go play bingo with my grandmother - $1 for three.  As always, click on any pic for a closer look.

Mom used to have a set of these but they were bigger and they made a noise when you turned them over - these aren't the same but I guess that's why I was taken with them.

This is probably the best old catalogue that I've found - it's in great shape and there's a ton of fun things in it that I'm going to share with you on future posts - it's from 1961 - stay tuned for some vintage Pyrex from it and lots of great household items and vintage fashions.

Everything else I bought is Christmas - nothing big but cute things, none the less.  There were a number of these Christmas card booklets - they were all pristine and never used - copyright 1946 - they're sweet!

Gary spotted these - Noel Matches - I've never seen anything like this before.  There's ten little match boxes inside each decorated with " gay holiday ornaments"

I finished it off with this tabletop candle - I stopped at Value Village before we crossed the border, hoping for a scarf or two, none but I came out with this.

It's so fun to get away and find new places to explore - we had a great time!!

  5. Great finds! Love those Xmas card books. Just curious-- do you collect Vera scarves? Wear them? Sell them? All of the above? I've used some as dresser scarves over the years.
