A Gift from a Blogging Friend!

This is a shout out post and a great big thank you to Paulette, the gal behind the blog, Cheerful Thrifty Door - Paulette has been decluttering in her basement, she thought of me when she was in the process, these beautiful Vera scarves arrived in my mailbox yesterday.  How generous is that?  You know I love my Vera collection and these are just such pretty additions.  Blogging friends are the best, I'm so grateful!! Thanks, Paulette!!

Isn't that heart one the sweetest?  That might be my all time favourite in my collection right now!!

We Were Thrifting

I had a sleepover at Carla's on Friday night, she was off work early so we hit the thrifts - the next day we were out the door early for a few yard sales and a couple of antique shops.  I might have gone somewhere different but the situation was still pretty much the same as here, the yard sales mostly had the same old junk.    Pickin's were slim!!

First off, I'll share Carla's new/vintage maxi dress from Value Village, I had a filled up coupon for 30% off so that was quite useful, Mom's are handy like that, aren't they?

These are quite different from any of my other blowmolds, maybe they are newer, I don't know.  There's no markings on them and I don't think they were ever meant to be lit.   I was especially taken with the lantern type ones.  They were $2 for all four.

My other Christmas item was a Christmas card box - 25 cents!  It's cute though and it's a big one!

Old magazines are always good!

Any excursion where I find a Vera or two is good in my mind, I found four.  Carla gave me the Vera scarf tying book.  It's funny about finding scarves, sometimes it seems all I can find are the split tip ones, I just don't think the patterns on those are as exciting as the other types of scarves.

I don't know if this is a toothpick holder or a little mini planter, it was made in Japan and it's pretty sweet!

Yesterday I was in the city and found this old piggy bank, it was made in Canada by Reliable Plastics, I think it was a pretty sweet find!

My purchases weren't anything very big but at least I found something!!!

Milestone - Two Hundred Vera Scarves!!

I now own 201 Vera scarves with these finds yesterday..

This is what two hundred Vera scarves look like..beautiful!!

I began this craze after reading about them on numerous blogs, I thought that it was something I should look for, well, that was November 2011 and this is what it has become.  My good friend Carol jumped on the Vera bandwagon shortly after that and now we snap a pic as soon as a new scarf is  purchased, we just have to see what the other has found!!

Here's the first one I found back in 2011...

There are just so many patterns out there, very rarely, do I ever find a duplicate - florals, geometrics, stripes, sheers, solids, leaves and trees, paisleys, the list goes on.  And then there are long scarves, small and large squares, wing tips, tube scarves, tie scarves - made of silk, cotton, polyester, wool, oh, my , there are just so many....

I have found most of my scarves at the thrifts, very few have I purchased on line.  I actually found one at a yard sale once!!  Fellow bloggers have sent me scarves and of course, Carol and I have traded any duplicates.  I found some Vera's that my Mom had and I also have one that belonged to my mother in law - those are special ones  which I never expected to find!  I look for them wherever I go - I've brought scarves home from Florida, from Michigan, from Maine, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island but the majority of them have come from right here in Ontario.  I will continue to look for these beautiful pieces wherever I go!!

The very best day I ever had was finding twelve scarves at a thrift - it was really an exciting day for a Vera collector - here's that post if you'd like to relive that day with me!!

The one good thing about collecting scarves, they don't take up much space.  I keep them in this basket and that is my book that I record each scarf in.

I love the thrill of the hunt for these scarves, I can tell a lot of them just by the look and feel of them now and when I see that Vera signature and sometimes the ladybug, it's coming home with me!!

Check out the link up at We Call it Junkin, always lots of interesting posts there.  Today is the last day for Thrifty Things Friday, Linda and Diann have put a lot of work into this great little party  - but things change...  thanks to the both of you!!

Away for a Week - Goodies I Brought Home

I've been home to Prince Edward Island for the past week, taking care of family business but I did find time to get to the thrift stores and when we arrived back in Ontario, we had a whole afternoon and evening in southern Ontario to do as we wanted to, before we met up with our son and his Uhaul - moving - what fun!!

This isn't from a thrift shop, it belonged to my great aunt, I've been wanting to bring it back and forgot it so many times - the Holt Howard Kitty Cat String Holder, stamped made in Japan, 1959 - I'm not a lover of cats but I just think this is so cute.  I've seen them in shops for sale - they're not cheap by any means.

There were also two of the spice kitty cats - I've looked it up on online, they came on a rack, the string holder and three spice kitty cats- I have the nutmeg and paprika - the other one was cinnamon, isn't that a strange combination??

I did find a few books, only one Eloise Wilkin one to be had - I did see some at an antique shop but I won't be paying $15 for one, no thank you!!  I bought the other three because they are old and only 25 cents, I couldn't leave them there...  The little Betty Crocker book - 25 cents....

I bought one piece of Pyrex and it wasn't a thrift price, I bought it at an antique shop and paid $18 - but I knew I would regret it if I didn't take it - my limit is $20 for a piece, I was carrying around a small Forest Fancies casserole, I quickly put that back when I spotted this beautiful blue Tulip.

These mugs are a bit faded but they're both Federal coffee mugs, for my fellow Canadians, you will recognize the Fuddle Duddle mug and the caricature of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, our 15th Prime Minister.  I found one for sale on Ebay for big bucks, I can only hope that there's a buyer out there for mine.

I've just spent the last hour or so washing and ironing 25 scarves - I hit the mother load for scarves - 20 of those were beautiful Vera ones - I'll keep those for another post.  Three of the scarves are vintage souvenir ones, I can't remember the last time I ever saw something like that in a gift shop - they have to be old - hoping for some sales on scarves in the near future..
