Three weeks and finally the dry spell is over, but maybe that is just because I went to a different town - this town has three thrift shops but not much else so there's really no need to go there and besides it's an hour away - it's hard to justify the trip when you are just going to thrift! I went before Christmas and now yesterday, so I guess that's ok. It was great - three thrift shops - purchases made at each one...
These swizzle sticks took my eye right away - they're all from Canadian hotels and restaurants. I bought the little pink napkin too. |
Here's what the Lichee Gardens used to look like - I read that it's still in operation - 60 years after opening.... |
Snowflake Platter - Pyrex from England - price $1 - this is my third piece of this pattern. The gold is worn off on the edge but I don't care! |
Some scarves that will be listed for resale - I was happy to find another Liberty of London one, they sell pretty well, the others are Oscar de la Renta, Echo and La Dear |
Finally - some Vera - found both of these at the same shop. I thought I had a duplicate, but I don't, the flowered one I have in red. |
This is the cutest little book, copyright 1955, Carnation Company Limited. |
I guess Margie Blake's Mama wrote cookbooks for Carnation so she branched out to a children's one |
At one of the shops, I paid $2.75 for everything -that included all of the books I bought, the napkins and the platter - not bad at all. The Golden Books are all duplicates for me - I'm going to do a Smash page on Golden Books, they're going to be cut up!! The other two books I plan to share.....At the rate I've been going though, this might have to keep me satisfied for a while...I'm linking up with Thriftasaurus , The Nifty Thrifty and Magpie Monday |
Great finds! I like the swizzle sticks, those are fun to collect
ReplyDeleteThat carnation cookbook was my very first! I think the main thing I made was the brownie recipe as that page was full of cocoa and other spills! Yours looks in good condition.
ReplyDeleteCutest ever "Fun To Cook Book"! I want one! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. Yes, things are picking up a bit. I found the butterfly gold butterdish today at the Goodwill for $1.99. I would have been thrilled, if my sister hadn't already given it to me. Of course I still bought it! :)
Love your Veras too!
Erica
I'm glad your thrift dry spell is over! It stinks when that happens. I never see swizzel sticks which is a good thing because I would probably never give them up! The ones you found pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteLots of great finds but I also love the swizzle sticks! You do find the best scarfs! Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteVery nice finds - glad things are picking up for you!
ReplyDelete:)
LOOOOOVEEEE the pitcher! You might find a replacement glass one day! I would have snatched that up too!
ReplyDeleteYou found some really cool items Jill! I love those swizzle sticks and the pitcher & glasses! I know you were happy to find some scarves!
ReplyDeleteI have never found a pitcher and matching glasses at a thrift store! You are so lucky:-) Maddie is always looking for Vera scarves for you when we are out. I can't wait until she finds you one. She will be so excited!
ReplyDeleteErica
You found some great things thrifting. The scarves are beautiful, something I never think of looking for, and the cook books are really cute.
ReplyDeleteSuper Score! You may want to check eBay before cutting up We Help Mommy, for a while that one was going for $$ much more than what you paid for the whole slew of stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe pitcher / glasses and napkins are particularly lovely -- so glad your dry spell has ended!
ReplyDeleteGlad the dry spell ended with some fab finds!
ReplyDeleteSwizzle sticks, always love finding them! Wish they still offered them everywhere - would be fun to collect!
I'm a fan of the JAJ snowflake. I have 2 pieces I think. A spacesaver & one of the same ones you have. I almost bought this platter at an antique market awhile ago.
I think I deleted your email Jill (accidentally). Thanks for thinking of me, but I already have the book! LOL.
Wonderful finds!! That cookbook is wonderful!!

Thats awesome that you found things that you actually collect! Everything is lovely. Theres not enough thrift stores in this province! Outside of the city theres only salvation army, and theyre widely dispersed!
ReplyDeleteWow, some unique finds!
ReplyDeleteYour dry spell is certainly over! The pitcher and glasses set are gorgeous.. Love the scarves! I'm always on the look out for Liberty scarves. I found a vintage Liberty of London dress before the holidays for $7!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds Jill. Especially love the pitcher and glasses.
ReplyDeletehugs,
