Books, TV, Movies and Music
It's winter, time for more reading, more tv watching but any season is good for going to the movies, I love going to the movies!!
Do you remember the movie, Into the Wild? It came out in 2007, the story of Chris McCandless, who after graduating from university, he abandoned his possessions and took off for Alaska, living in the wilderness. Our whole family loved this movie and when I saw a new book, The Wild Truth, I put it on my Christmas list. I've read it, if you're a fan of the movie, this book will answer a lot of questions that you might have about the film. The book is written by Chris' sister, Carine McCandless - it really does shine a new background on this incredible story.
Right now I'm reading Unbroken, I saw the movie over Christmas, it's one of those movies that grabs you in right from the first scene. It's the true story of Louis Zamperini, set in World War II, he survived events that we cannot even imagine, that's all I'm going to say because I don't want to give it away! This author also wrote Seabiscuit which became another fabulous movie.
Over the weekend we saw "The Imitation Game" another World War II true story - the story of mathematician, Alan Turning who cracked the enigma code along with a group of other mathematicians -great acting and a great story!!
Before Christmas we started watching "Wentworth" on Netflix - if you liked "Orange is the New Black", this series is one to watch, it's very similar but set in an Australian prison, we just finished it up on the weekend, there's two seasons available, it was binge watching, for sure!! Loved it - I think it's the better of the two series'. Now, what are we going to watch?
I must include songza.com - Carla recommended it, now I know why she likes it so much - I always have the XM Sirius channels playing, after discovering this site, we are considering stopping our in house XM service - there is every kind of music you could ever want on here and even better, it's free!!! Right now I'm listening to 70's One Hit Wonders!! It's great!!!
Hope your day is filled with music!!
My dad would really like the Alaska book. And you know 70s one-hit-wonders are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteI loved the movie. I saw on TV and interview with the sister who wrote the book. They made a pilgrimage to the bus. Very moving, I bet the book is good. I'm ready for some movies and that Netflix show sounds good as I do like OSTNB!
ReplyDeleteHi Jill!
ReplyDeleteWe love books and movies too.
I liked the book "Into the Wild" very much and the movie too. David's read all of Jon Krakauers and enjoyed them all - he also read "Unbroken" and loved it. I've been afraid it might be too distressing for me. :(
We saw "The Imitation Game" last week and loved it - we saw "The Theory of Everything" too, both so good.
Stay warm and cozy!
I want to see The Theory of Everything too, but it seems to have passed by our theatre....
DeleteGreat recommendations. Imitation Game is high on my list. I really enjoyed Selma and highly recommend it. I'm reading We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas and really enjoying it. Long, but worth it.
ReplyDeleteHey, i like your website. The fact that you don't write on any particular topic, just your fancy is what i find amusing. If you wanna see a similar set up, do visit my blog https://rahulkumar961.wordpress.com/.Or you could click the name at the top of this comment. It may not be the best, but it's a decent try.
