Books and More Books

I can't stop myself from looking at children's books at the thrifts, I don't have any small children to be buying them for - I guess I am either trying to relive my childhood or getting myself prepared for future grandchildren and I will be prepared for those grandchildren, in the book department anyway.

These are all books I've brought home in the past few weeks... I'm really starting to worry about where I'm going to put these books I'm buying...

I had both of these when I was little, I think we may actually have another copy of the Mother Goose book but the Little Lulu book, I was so happy to find that one - it looks like this copy is a first edition.  I bought it at an antique mall the other week when I was away, at this booth the books were $3, another booth $15, of course, the book I'm looking for - The Costume Party - it has been there for a long time but who's going to buy that for $15?

What a coincidence, another "Jill" owned this book.  I loved this one, Lulu and Tubby are not happy they have to look after Alvin - can you tell??

I had the Cinderella book too - these are both Wonder books - it just takes me back looking at those pictures, I thought Cinderella was so beautiful when she was dressed for the ball!

I was lucky to find some Eloise Wilkin books too - my collection is growing..

From "So Big"

From "We Like Kindergarten"

This is not the standard Little Golden Book for Eloise Wilkin - it's called a Golden Look Look Book, the illustrations are so beautiful in all of her books.

From "Little Prayers"

The Rand McNally Elf Junior books are so cute but I rarely ever see them.  Some of the illustrations are colored, some are only red, white and grey.

I've never seen these before - My First Golden Learning Library - they are copyright 1965, each one has a foil spine that is solid colored

Timothy's Book of Trains was printed and made in Great Britain, I can't find any date on it at all, it looks old.

I used to love watching "The Flintstones"

Can't go wrong with a Charlie Brown book

Carla had a bunch of these books, I have pretty well all of their children's books, but I don't think I kept any of these - so I HAD to buy it!

I've always loved books myself so I guess it's just natural that I would be drawn to these old ones.    And, it's an inexpensive thing to buy!  They're so nice, I can't really help myself!

Easter and Yes, Christmas

I've sure had a run of fun mail lately, it used to be I got letters often, but those days are long gone, so any time there is anything in the box besides bills and flyers, it's good. It's especially nice when it comes from blogging friends.

When Ericaof Thrifting Sisters fame wrote me and said she found something at an estate sale that made her think of me, I had no idea what it could be.  It arrived last week - and here it is.....

It's an Annalee Santa - I discovered these Annalee figures last fall when we were coming home through New England.  I saw some old ones first at an antique shop, I didn't really look closely at them, sure wishing I would have, then the next day I was at a Home Goods store and there were shelves of them - Halloween and Christmas - I blogged about them here.   A Santa and a cute card - that's great mail, in my mind!  Thanks so much!

Only thing, now I have to pack him away until Christmas!

Holly is keeping me in bunting - she makes them herself - she sent me one a few weeks ago and now I have another one of her creations.  I am so lucky to have met such thoughtful people through my blog, I appreciate everyone that reads my posts, I almost always have a small response for you, if you are not a no comment blogger!  In the past few days, some new people have started to follow me - thank you so much!

Happy Easter from Holly..

She also sent me a couple of Little Golden Books for Easter - I didn't have these titles when I was little and my children didn't either...

This one is already in position, the illustrations are so cute, in both of the books.

Why are bunnies always the sweetest?

I have a few reds this week so I'm linking up with Rednesday.

Two Cities-Six Thrifts-Slim Pickins'

The title says it all - pickins' are slim!  I had an overnight visit with Carla this week, I made the rounds at the three shops there, stopped in at my regular spots on the way home - guess I'm lucky I found anything at all.....

This was in really bad shape, I thought I could fix it up, but there's no fixing that chip on the cornerwhich  I didn't even see that when I picked it up - but it was a  pink flamingo oblong baker, #232, Made in Canada, I felt I had to buy it.   I have a lime green one that is perfect, this is far from perfect - it was $2

I scrubbed it and scrubbed it - it's better than it was, but it's not real pretty!!!

Lambs and bunnies and blooms...

I don't usually buy things like this but I'm trying to fill up a corner shelf and this is pretty darn cute - it was $1

I am not playing the piano, the organ or the guitar, I just bought it for display

I think I have a Golden Book sickness, really, I have no business buying these ....

I have never seen an Eloise Wilkin soft cover Golden Shape book,  but I had to buy this one, even though some of the pages are missing...

This illustration has to be the sweetest one in the book

Good night, Baby..

Remember I found this hat last week for 50 cents, I took it to Carla, she claimed it, she'll be wearing it....

A Week's Worth of Stuff

This was definitely the best thing I found this week - but I can't identify it - I blogged on the Pyrex Collective and put it on Flickr, nobody knows the pattern. It's a JAJ piece of Pyrex, made in England - and so pretty - it'll be great to use for Halloween next year.

$3 was the price on this beauty.

I don't think these "mocha spoons" were ever used - I found some forks in the summer and had no trouble selling them

I seem to be picking up any older and cute Christmas books - for those future grandchildren, I guess.....

Russian Roulette - The Game of Chance, Bluff and Daring.  It was never used, the money is crisp, the chips were never punched out.

Flinch - never heard of it before...

I bought the Santa and runner for $1 - the sticker on the bottom of the Santa reads - Brinn's, Pittsburgh, PA, Made in Japan

What's the chance of finding two music boxes, the very same, in the same week.  Well, I did.  I only paid 50 cents for this one - I'm going to have a Christmas draw in a couple of weeks... This cutie could be coming to your house.  She plays Jingle Bells

As you can see, I didn't get the twelve ornaments, it says they are made in Poland, some are in the box, some say Slovakia.  The music box and these ornaments came from the came shop, 50 cents for the box.

I can't help myself, more Christmas books!

I always like to read a Christmas book or two around this time of the year, both second hand and both probably read once.

This sweet little Care Bears plate from the 80's is going to my friend, Holly.

I don't need any more tins and it's not even vintage, I bought it at Liquidation World,it looks it though, and it was so cute, I had to buy the smaller one too.

How often do you get a gift for browsing in a store.  It happened to me yesterday, I was  in the Christmas section at Sears, a clerk passed me this gift - candy, pretzels, cookies and tea - how nice is that......

Junkin' Joe is back and I'm linking up here.  I'm also joining the party at Share Your Cup Thursday

Here's What I Brought Home..

I had to go to the city yesterday so I set the GPS for yard sales and set out early - that did me no good, I purchased nothing at any of those sales.  I followed some signs and this is what I found - Homestead 473, 474, and 475, with lids - for $3 - can you believe that?  If I found nothing else, I would have been happy!

I know a lot of people don't care for the Homestead pattern, but I think it's kind of nice - these are all the pieces I own..

Three pieces of this I found at the Salvation Army - the two little 501's, with lids and the yellow/orange 502, no lid, I paid $2 each.  I got home and started researching just what set they went with - it's Daisy and I had the orange 503!  I have a set!!  I haven't found fridgies in so long,  earlier in the week I found some Snowflake, now this.....

Butterfly Gold 401 - I have this one, maybe someone else needs it, I paid $1.99 at Value Village

Butterfly Gold lid for 043 - I don't have the casserole, maybe it will turn up some day. I don't think I've ever seen a patterned lid like this before at Value Village -  it was 99 cents..

I'm still having luck finding Vera scarves - I actually found one at at yard sale, the flowered one on the bottom, the other two I bought at Salvation Army, $1 for each one.  The flowered one on the left is a mystery to me - it has the Vera signature but the tag is what is strange  - it is sewn on and made in Korea, I thought all of the scarves were made in Japan.  Is is a fake?  is it a newer one?  Anyone have any ideas??

Finally, I found an Eloise Wilkin book - Where Did the Baby Go?    I've just noticed the Hymns book on Pinterest this week, it's so cute...

These were just too cute - 50 cents!
