This beauty was bought this morning at a church sale for 50 cents! I was taken to the colour because after all it is a Pyrex colour, it was strange to me because the wheat part is metal. I lifted it up to inspect it, it had a candle warmer in the bottom, that flew out and shattered all over the floor. Great!! I didn't even know what it was at that point, when I lifted the cover off, I was sure surprised!
The glass insert is Pyrex - it says 595 - Trademark Pyrex, Made in USA - and then A-X below that, it measures approximately 10 inches across - have you ever seen anything like this? The top handle is sort of wobbly and has a big blob of putty of some sort on it, that will have to come off! I didn't NEED this dish at all, but I couldn't pass it up, mainly because of the beautiful colour and the price!! I think it was a really good find!!
I didn't hesitate to grab this Snoopy mug - 25 cents. This old Fisher Price Radio actually works - it plays Humpty Dumpty - price - 25 cents! |

Those are great finds -- that Pyrex piece looks really intriguing! [Also like the Fisher Price radio. We had those when I was a kid.]
ReplyDeleteLove the Pyrex piece ... great find
ReplyDeleteWow Jill! You always manage to find the best stuff! Hopefully, you can find out more about that Pyrex piece!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a chafing dish, you keep already baked food warm by light the candle under the Pyrex dish. The transistor radio is adorable! I bought one for the youngest 26 years ago like that. I would use a little Formula 409 and a toothbrush to clean up the grunge...sweet find~
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool Pyrex piece! I agree it's a chafing dish/warmer. I always love vintage Fisher Price toys!
ReplyDeleteGlad there are signs of spring for you and love your interesting finds!
ReplyDeleteawesome finds! Love it all, esp that little radio! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is it, you ask? AMAZING!!! That's what:-)

Very cute finds at such great prices!!
ReplyDeleteJust when we thought we'd seen it all in the Pyrex world, something like this little beauty comes along! I have no idea what it is, but I'm glad it came home with you!
ReplyDeleteUnique piece Jill. Wondering if it's some type of early fondue cooker. Love that pretty shade of blue. Great prices on everything! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
In the pyrex community we have a weird name for it.. its called the "whatchamacallit".. and thats about as far as we've gotten. theres other pieced that go to it, such as a serving tray, and it comes in other colors.
ReplyDeleteWOW! 50cents?
ReplyDeleteSTART THE CAR!!
If you find out anything about it, let us know! It's a cool piece.
I think that Pyrex chafing dish is one of the Rodney Kent collaborations. They made the metal parts and designed it to work with a special Pyrex insert. The black 503s come from one of these collabs. Just search Flickr for Rodney kent and you will see some.
ReplyDeleteI know this post is a few years old, but I just bought a pink dish just like your mystery Pyrex! Mine is missing the lid though. Did you ever find out what it was?
